Maria @5:48 you speak of adding more height to your knee stack. How would you actually do that? Is there a warrior accessory/product that you would use, or are you referring to a medication you would create yourself? Did the slide plates come with the pads or did you have to buy those separately? Another question I have is, 8 months after this video was uploaded, are you still using the G6’s on a regular basis (knee stack, toe area, inner material starting to wear or creating holes, etc..)? If so, are there points of wear you are finding? Any places wearing quicker than you thought should be?
Here's how to add to your knee stack - ua-cam.com/video/8r-qshK5jQU/v-deo.htmlsi=ck3OX3T0OqFP7Lcn The slide pads came with the G6s, but I think you can also buy them separately. Yes, I still use the G6s and there is no major wear or holes or anything. My other set of Warriors I've had for three+ years and they are holding up great too - just some wear on the velcro.
hey! great videos! I use Bauer, can't have a straight opinion since I used my RBK's for a long time and my Vapors I've been using them for a couple of years now, I can't go to a pro shop without changing countries. I would like to try ad get a set of Brian's I love the Bauers and how they sit, they are a bit small, but the Bauer rep said that for my measure I could use a 34 or a 35 in a matter of preference but, since my bf is a bit on the narrow side I think a bit of of a bigger thigh rise could be beneficial.
Those Bauers would be a huge upgrade from the Reeboks - I bet they feel great!
@@goalietraining oh yes baby!
I used to ride with a guy that swore by his scores. He would text our group chat and be like “sorry boys. I woke up with a 25%. I’m staying in.” It’s good baseline to change certain habits that hinder your fitness but to completely change what you do because of it is unnecessary lol
Yeah, it's one piece of the picture - but that sounds a little extreme.
I Maria for your next video can you do the speed workout for phase two off the off season
It is on my list, but it won't be next week - I already have a few videos in the hopper, but stay tuned.
i wanted to thank you for your help in recovering from my groin injury and i am feeling great and doing so much better in the net. thank you again for getting me back in the net
So happy to help you get back out there! You are most welcome!
Getting into and out of rvh, my goalie says
yeah, that's tricky - some of these will help.
asl always..awesome video!
Yes, for the PAILs and RAILs you will be at your very end range on the adductor side, so no room for more abduction. At end range Abduction a pro ballet dancer could not lift their leg - there simply would not be anywhere to get the extra range... but they would be much lower to the ground!
@@goalietraining you beat me to the editing of the question...I thought of the answer as I read it. And of course it all makes sense! thank you!
Great video, thank you. What were the pros and cons of the different synthetic ice brands? I’m looking at getting some for my son and I to train and some on our butterfly pushes.
Glad you like it - thanks. Here's the answer to your question - ua-cam.com/video/yQQM3KC3bns/v-deo.htmlsi=bxEakeVEJ-ByIFqr
Do uou have any ideas for keeping them still? I keep skatinf on my synthetic ice, however it keeps sliding
Yes, you can get these rolls of a rubbery kind of material - they are designed to put under a rug or linking your cupboards to prevent your dishes from sliding around. I put those under the synthetic ice and it works well.
@@goalietraining oh ok. Do you know what they are called?
@@beamngcrashes1181 No I don't, sorry.
Should I do these before a game too
Use these more as part of your mobility routine, they are not intended to be a warm up.
@@goalietraining ok thank you
I’ve been 45-60 min a day for 7-8 days a week…
I think it's a little much, unless you are working around an injury. 20-40 minutes should do it if you are working on the right things. Or if you just really like mobility training, then that's fine :)
I bought the SLR4 after watching your video. My question is how do make the shoulders move out wider so that my head doesn't hit when I turn my head. I already moved the straps out to the outer clip. Thanks!
I'm not really sure, not an issue I had when using that chesty on the ice, but I did include Jay's contact info in the video, he is the equipment wizard, so I would reach out to him and see what he suggests.
@@goalietraining Do you have a time code for that? I did a search through the transcript on his name, the word "Contact", and came up empty. Thanks!
@@MitchSpeck ha ha - no, I don't have THAT good of a memory - if I had to guess I would think it comes up on the screen probably when they are first shown in the video, but I could be wrong. They don't say their contact info, so it won't show up in the transcript, it will be an overlay.
Beer league beginner goalie here. Maria's programs are awesome!!! I highly recommend. I just disagree with one point.... Jamie Oliver's recipe can sometimes be truly awful, making my wife's Italian ancestors cry in their grave... It can't be compared to Maria's carefully crafted programs. ;-)
ha ha - I should have said ... Antonio Carluccio maybe 😁... my grandmother was Greek and oh how I miss her cooking!! Nothing like it. Thank you for your kind words Vincent - it is so fun to work with you - - and glad to help your golf game a little too.
Hey Maria, what do you think hip strengthening exercises should be done before training or should be mobilized more after training in the off season? Thanks in advance!
Hip strengthening is a part of your well designed goalie training program, not separate - your mobility module should be done either a few hours before your workout or after.
Be sure to watch her video on miofascial release! I do that before each game and it is amazing the benefits with little time
Can this be used outside or do I need a cover for the chiller? Or does it come with a cover for the chiller? I am in south Louisiana and it is HOT!

Wonderful news - so glad to have you back. Go get it!
Hi there, I'm a little confused about what you say at 8:00. You say to push your foot into the wall. However in this older video you say to rotate your foot AWAY from the wall: ua-cam.com/video/zSzl1buW0_s/v-deo.html Which one should we be doing? Both? Thanks for your help! :)
Two different techniques. This is using a Contract-Relax technique, the other video is FRC PAILS/RAILS.
@@goalietraining Ok thanks! So I suppose both exercises should be performed?
@@mattm1982 You can use both in your toolbox, but you would not use both in the same mobility routine

Thanks Kenny. I appreciate that 🙌
Great video. How often would one do these exercises per week?
4-7 times per week as part of your mobility routine.
These are great, thank you! Would love some more info on building the bottom up strength. I do your exercise of starting kneeling and pressing up, and it’s helped a lot, but my butterfly recoveries are still so slow. Maybe a video on how to improve recoveries specifically with off ice exercises?
Great idea Jes… I’ll have to put that on my To do list.
As always: great video! can I use this during my in season, as I don't have an actual off season. thank you!
Yes - - even goalies with an "off-season" are still skating and some are still playing, it is very common these days.
@@goalietraining great thank you!
Great exercises. I literally just got scored on in a game in Monday similar to that glove save Freddie made. I got there too late for the rebound.
So frustrating - it's like you are skating in quicksand sometimes - your brain knows what to do, but you legs won't get you there.

Hello. I am a returning goalie. Was testing some chest and pants this week. I want to ask. I tried the SLR3 Chest protector in L size. Was sitting great on me. But as I am like you , always tuck. The guy in the shop, is suggesting to be able to tuck, to go larger pants so XL size. What do you think ? Somehow I am note sure about this. My height is 177cm and well only 75Kgs weight. So I think those XL pants will be really big on me. I think I need to try the whole set, chest and pants, again.
Hmmm - I know some goalies do get big big pants to take up more space and mine are big, but not so big I am swimming around in there. The Vaughn SLR4 (assuming SLR3 as well) pants should let you tuck, half tuck or untuck, so I'm not sure you need to go THAT big. This is just my opinion, but I think your instinct is right - go back in there and try the chest and pants on together again. I would also ask if you can return them if they are unused, then at home I would try it all on with my skates and pads on too - just to see how the pads feel with the pants too.
Thank you very much. Appreciate it. And thank you for your videos. They are helping a lot for guys like me who are returning as goalie after 25-30 years. Great work.
@@jovzin8022 My pleasure to help - welcome back to the Goalie Union!!!
Can I ask how tall you are? I'm trying to find the right fit for my 13 year old daughter for a chestie and it's been a challenge. She is in a junior ccm L/XL that is too small but it is soft and broken in and she doesn't want to give it up because everything else seems too stiff and bulky. She's 5' 3" and 110lbs. Slim build with long torso. She uses Warrior G6 30" leg pads that are a great fit.
You sure can... I am just shy of 5'6" and about 123lbs.
5 years later and ultra flexible goalies are a prerequisite per Pro goalie Scouts at the highest levels now.
I would say ultra mobile goalies - - meaning they have control over their range of motion. But a splits is not a pre-requisite for success by any means.
Maria odd question do you sell merch??😊
That’s a great question. I don’t, currently I give swag as gifts to clients, but I do t sell it. Should I?
I think merch can help lots with advertising 🤷♂️. That logo is so amazing would look great on a “warm-up jacket” or hoodie
@@michaelmondich1966 I agree !!
@@michaelmondich1966 yeah, the logo looks sharp on merch for sure. Something to consider for sure.
Nice one! what are your thoughts on wide toe box and minimalistic shoes? thank you M
I like wide toebox - - our feet are shaped like that. Minimalist shoes are fine once you have earned the right to wear them. People think they can do agility and plyos in minimalist shoes to make their feet stronger, but chance are that will lead to overload unless you build up to that level. So if you want to go with minimalist shoes, wear them for everyday walking around, etc for at least 2-months. before you start wearing them for training. And even then, start wearing them for strength training, but not stamina, speed or plyos.
@@goalietraining cool. I've been on minimalist shoes for over two years now. and anyways I've been working barefoot for over 20 years
And also maybe try to hop up

Hi Maria, thank you for this great informative video. What do you think about static stretching for 2 minutes hold after a workout? More and more people are saying that you should hold the streches for 2 minutes. Thanks in advance!
I am fine with using static stretches for specific purposes. You will hear a lot of different time frames for holds and again it depends a bit on the purpose. The truth is what's 'best' is very hard to study, so we are left to our judgement based on experience. I remember reading a meta-analysis many years ago pooling data from the studies on static stretching that had been doing to that point and the findings suggested that 30s was as good an any of the other hold durations. So I typically use 30s, unless I am really trying to work a chronically tight muscle and get it to release, then (along with other techniques) I will prescribe a longer duration.
Thank you very much!
@@flaszlo70 You are welcome.
I discovered PRI a few months ago. It explained why stretching never worked, why I was more flexible on one side over the other and why I was good on one post but not the other etc. The changes are instant but it takes time to retrain your brain and muscles to stay in the correct place.
Yes it does explain a lot and the purpose isn't to get the muscles to 'stay' in the correct place, but to re-educate the muscles and joints to at least have access to those equal and opposite positions in a functional way. It's a very cool way to look at the body.
@@goalietraining Maybe I need to explain myself more clearly. I have developed compensatory patterns in my pelvis that have prevented me from correctly rotating joints and using muscles to their best. PRI is helping me to retrain my brain and muscles to use the correct patterns of firing and moving, not the compensatory patterns. To 'stay in the correct place', not resort to the compensatory patterns that were causing so many issues. Make more sense?
@@sportysbusiness wonderful - keep up the great work!
